Where have you gone Platformers and Adventures?

When did this happen? Where have the platformers and adventure games gone? Some of my favorite gaming moments involved various platformer games and especially the Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain/Kingdom of Hearts/Prince of Persia (before the emo days) adventure/action games.

Do these type of games still exist and are simply flying under the radar? I mean I can't find them, maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

The greatest thing involving these games are the awesome background story and solving puzzles. Maybe I need to pick up a PS3 and do God of War because I simply think the 360 is seriously lacking in this genre.

XBLA has a few (Limbo, Cloning Clyde) but Except for Kameo I can't recall any others.

LittleBigPlanet is the best platformer of this generation, and the PS3 has two Rachet and Clanks w a third on the way!

I agree, too few platformers, especially on the 360.

Dante's Inferno has some platforming and quite a few puzzles, it's a hack-n-slash though, very similar to God of War. I haven't played the demo yet, but Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is supposed to have some nice platforming parts and a ton of puzzles.

Majin the Forsaken Kingdom looks promising. Very little fighting and you have to use Majin the monster to help you get through the levels.

If PoP is too emo for you, how about the Tomb Raider games?

The cell shades Prince of Persia was good, and Alice: Madness Returns comes out next year.

Meanwhile, the PS3 has the exclusive The Last Guardian by the team that did Ico and Shadow of Colossus--both of which are being remade in HD and 3D for the PS3.

So yeah the PS3 is the console to own if you like platforners and adventurers.

The Ratchet & Clanks and Sly Coopers from the PS2 (and now 3 R&Cs on the PS3 - one is a DL title) are my all-time favorite platformers.

Otherwise, I agree with much of above that with this generation of systems, developers have seemed to forgotten the genre.

You talking about the one where you collect the light seeds? Good for platforming, but a little boring and repetitive.

My son was obsessed with all the Sly Coopers for a couple years. We had even traded in those games at one point and he ended up buying them again later.

Darksiders had a lot of platforming elements to it, and Portal 2 is on the way...
