Imagine and Universal are teaming up to deliver a Ron Howard-directed movie in May of 2013 with a tv series and more movies to follow. Anybody else excited?

I'm thrilled that by using both mediums that they can delve into a lot of story. The dark tower remains one of my favorites.

Anybody got any ideas on who should play Roland? Jake Chambers, Eddie Dean, or Odetta (suzannah) holmes? Or Oy?

Josh Brolin comes to mind, too, but he may not be grizzled enough.

Agreed, that it needs to be an Eastwood type, but I can't think of anyone else quite like Clint.

Ha! you know your namesake, Timothy Olyphant, would be a pretty good choice. But if you want an Australian, how bout matt passmore from the glades? I think he'd make a great eddie dean.

I took part in a conversation like this on another forum about a year ago. I really think Christian Bale would make a great Roland if he shed weight again. He's a talented actor and takes his roles pretty seriously. Only thing is he's so well known, it could detract from the character. So really I think it would be good if they could find some fantastic unknowns to make this movie with. Love the books, can't wait to check out the movie. Hope Ron does us proud...

Ooh, while I would love to see this done, can it truly be done justice?

I just dont know.
we are talking about some of King's most in-depth books and series altogether.

I would like to see Timothy Olyphant, especially after his turn as Raylen Givens on FX's Justified, or perhaps Clive Owen.
Clive Owen definitely has that aged gunslingler look about him, that could really pull it off.

Ironically, I did like the suggestion of Christian Bale also, since I had just re-watched 3:10 to Yuma the other day and was again, pleasantly surprised at his job on that.

In a perfect world, this would be Clint's role, no question about it. Unfortunately, for the undertaking that this project will become, Clint is entirely too busy himself putting out quality movies.

I'll re-visit this after I think more on who could be the other characters.

Tobin Bell would be a perfect Man in Black, though!

Tobin Bell is Jigsaw from the Saw movies.
If you havent seen the movies, at least check out a trailer, so you can hear his voice.
He would be perfect for the Man in Black/ Randall Flagg.

You know, now watching the trailer for Cowboys & Aliens, Daniel Craig or Harrison Ford (please, make it Harrison Ford) would be great in the role of Roland.
