I don't normally get excited about tv shows, but this show is giving me a serious nerdboner. I can't wait. Supposedly a rumor is they are going to air in late March early April, run for (I think) 10 episodes and then close out right before True Blood starts in June.
I've never read any of the series, but I'm always up for some good fantasy stuff. Of course, I don't have HBO, so I'll wait for DVD.
You're not exactly selling me, Cyber.
It is better than most fantasy... don't listen to Cyber, he watches and is comparing it to real soap operas.
The books have plenty of fantasy elements, but does focus on court intrigue/backstabbing quite a bit - and don't get comfortable with too many "main" characters. GRRM will kill them off in a heartbeat.
Super psyched for this one... the main reason we'll be re-subscribing to HBO again next year.![]()
Game of Thrones (the first book of A Song of Fire and Ice) is difficult to describe, because when most people think "fantasy" they think Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. Game of Thrones is fantasy, because it's set in a fictional realm, but there's very little "magic" and "supernatural" business. There is some, and increasingly more as the series progresses, but at least initially, the more fantastical elements (like dragons) do not take center stage. The plot concerns two royal families, the Starks and the Lannisters, as they fight for control of the kingdom. Each chapter is told from the POV of a different character, so even when some plots drag (for me, it's anything with Jon Snow and the business beyond the Wall) there other plots unfolding. The series is not for kids (incest, rapes and beheadings are common) and I've wondered how even HBO will handle some of the hardcore stuff that goes down.
Now that they've announced the premier for this (April 17) does anyone know of a good way to watch new HBO shows without having to subscribe to HBO itself?
Legally? I don't think there is one.
You could probably find it on a BitTorrent site somewhere, but I don't know if we're allowed to discuss the specifics of that here. If you're a vigilant Internet User and know how to stay away from scam/virus type websites then you could probably go that route.... otherwise, be VERY careful.
