Tablet Recommendations?

So i have some bonus christmas giftcards burning a hole in my wallet and i am leaning towards blowing it on a tablet/e-reader of some sort.

i'm looking to spend roughly half of what an ipad costs but if that ends up being the ultimate answer other funds could be diverted.

i have looked at several ranging from the kindle to the ones they sell in wallgreens. I really like the battery life and the way books are read on the kindle but video playback would be a neat feature. Seems like the android ones are varied in quality and capability with some being utter carp and some being marginally good at everything. Ive read tons of reviews but looking for some actual recommendations from people who own them.

All i really want to do is run the kindle app and some light web browsing and occasional video and email when the other computers are in use.

When they have them in stock, they are normally $300 / $350 (16GB / 32GB). The reviews are okay, but most of them seem to be from non-tech savy people. You will have to do a few things out of the box to get this working the best it can, including updating to android 2.2.

I have a Kindle (my wife's) and an iPOD (mine).

The huge advantage of the Kindle is the near infinite battery life. Truly amazing stuff. It is easy to handle and easy to read (if the room is well lit).

I prefer my iPOD. I love the back lit display (which I can turn way down to low contrast if the room is dark). There have been reports that the back light actually photostimulates your brain and can keep you awake (Personally, I have no problem falling asleep after reading the iPOD).

Both have a dictionary option, but I really like having web reference right there on the iPAD. I can go from reading an item to researching it in a click (and I do this A LOT when I read). I'm currently reading Jack Reacher novels, and I find myself going between Wikipedia, You Tube, Dictionary and the book.

I've heard that some readers now have a violet back-light option that does not photostimulate - I don't know any more about it than that, but it may be worth looking into if you read in bed.

My wife's Kindle has no touch screen (joystick navigation) - I'm not sure if the newer versions have the same navigation, but I really miss the touch screen when we swap books.

I absolutely love my Galaxy Tab, and the price is coming down, slowly. The Xoom is coming out soon, but it's price isn't official (rumored to be from $800 to $1200 in price). I head the Archos tab's are good, but only have one trusted review of it.

I got to play with one last night. One of my regulars brought it in and let me have a looksy. Pretty cool!

I thought I posted this already but, I own an iPad 64 GB no 3G, it'll do all you asked, light browsing, keep in mind no flash, e-mail is no problem, video's were a problem if they weren't mp4, not anymore there is apps that will play avi etc....., and ontop of that it will play games.

I use my iPad all morning and pretty much till about 4-5 pm when I actually turn on my PC.

I am eager to see what tablets come out on the next few weeks. I am leaning towards the IPad2, mainly because I have too much effort vested in my iPhone (and my wife's iPhone) as far as calendars, apps, etc, etc.

The Xoom sounds awesome and I can't wait to get all these dang announcements moving already! Let's see what you built people (Apple and Motorola)!!!

Not looking for a laptop replacement, but just something to screw around with while the wife is watching another 60 hours of E-entertainment "news."

Its supposed to be coming out in June. I say Ipad. My wife just got me one for my Bday (2/21). Ive been using it for just about everything. If you get a Ipad go ahead and unlock it to its full potential.
