I've loved everything about the campaign .....until this final boss battle. I'm playing on Hardcore, and up until this point the difficulty hasn't been as harsh as I expected, and then suddenly at the end I get this massive spike in difficulty. My controller has taken a beating.
I just can't seem to kill enough things fast enough, between killing guards and floaty thingies, stocking up on ammo, and dodging the Marcus-death-ray (seeing as he's the only thing on the f*-ing battlefield that it actually kills). Then when she jumps on the building I can't look straight up since Marcus' neck is so thick, so I have to basically go out in the open to get an angle on her back. But, since I haven't killed enough things in the interim, they basically all lay waste to me and I have to pray that AI teammates are nearby and will actually remember to revive me.
What I've been trying the last couple of times is when she's not on the building I'd completely ignore her to try and take down all the guards instead so that when she'd jump on the building I wouldn't get shot at by so many guys when I'm out in the open. Either I haven't done this well enough or it's just the wrong tactic. I'm not sure at this point.
Soooo, final boss on hardcore solo - if anyone has some tips, that'd be awesome.
I could not get "lock on" with the hammer of dawn when she was on the buliding or flying. Had to shoot clip after clip at her whilst she was in flight or on the building with the lancer, till she dropped to the floor - then Hammer her.

I'm trying it on Insane and I don't know what to do either. It's never the Tempest that gets me. It's always the guards. They come from everywhere.
Okay, I beat the Tempest on Insane. It took... forty or fifty tries, I would guess. Here's how I finally did it:
(And this was not my strategy. I found it on the Gamefaqs board.) Immediately after the Tempest climbs the building, refill your Lancer and Hammer of Dawn ammo. Then, proceed to shoot it in its back and try not to waste ammo by making your shots hit the glowing, exposed part of its back, not its armor. Make your way to the gazebo-like structure that is on the outer rim of the area. For me, the gazebo was directly opposite where the Tempest climbs the building. By using the outer edges of the gazebo as cover--i.e., don't vault inside it--I was pretty safe from both guards and the Tempest itself. The guards would grapple near me, but if I ignored them they pretty much always ignored me. Sometimes the guards shoot at me, but they'd never approach me aggressively. When they'd shoot me, I would just pivot around to where they couldn't hit me and my A.I. buddies would eventually distract them. There is luck involved in the deployment of the guards and the movements of the Tempests. Sometimes, luck is not in your favor. Don't get frustrated--just keep trying. Using the gazebo as cover, concentrate on shooting at the Tempest's mouth and avoiding its ray. Active reload if you can. It doesn't make sense to lessen the amount of guards, because they just seem to keep spawning. However, if you get overwhelmed by the guards for some reason, don't forget you can use the Hammer on them too. But, concentrating on the Tempest only is the best route. When the Tempest goes down, refill your Lancer ammo. Then, fire your Hammer of Dawn as much as possible. When the Tempest retreats, return to the gazebo. The Tempest should fly back toward the building at this point. Now, here I think luck plays a big part too because sometimes no matter how much I seemed to shoot at the Tempest, it managed to annihilate Adam Fenix and it was game over. Aim for that exposed part of its back and just hope your fire is enough to dislodge it in time. You can also press the left thumbstick to mark it for your comrades... I'm not sure this really helps, but I know it doesn't hurt. If you're fortunate, the Tempest will let go of the building and you can go back into cover at the gazebo. Keep shooting at its mouth. The Tempest goes down. Now, here I ran out and refilled my ammo again. You'll definitely more Hammer of Dawn ammo. I was able to destroy the Tempest at this point--and the guard situation was relatively handled. So, to recap: gazebo, shoot the exposed back only, and ignore the guards if possible. Good luck!

Worked like a charm! Got it on my 2nd try using this tactic on Hardcore. Thanks for saving me from a lot more headaches!

this hasn't worked at all we get ner to the third attempt on the tower and game over. We did figure out the gazebo trick though, but the guards aren't leaving us alone.
Finishing the Boss co-op was hard enough with someone else. I can't imagine how it would be solo. I'm going to have to remember the gazebo trick.
