    Hey Pig!

This was my first Battlefield game played, and I'm loving it. When playing with friends, I'm usually the weakest slayer. So I'll either be assault class with health packs and the defibrillator, or I'll be support with extra ammo, depending on the rest of the squad.

If I'm gaming on my own, I'll be primarily engineer, on spawn I shoot down all the flying vehicles I can, ride shotgun in a tank, or last resort, take a vehicle out on my own and try to build it up. Very tough, when the other flyers seem to have all the cool toys.

The first 4 levels are the toughest... all I did was die. But things get better, and all the ways to help the team without being a powerslayer makes it interesting.

I am still having a very hard time with this game. I just reached level 4 and it's been a hard slog.

I'm going to create a new game for people who find this game frustrating. It's going to be called "Battlefield VFW." You sit around in a smelly basement bar, drinking canned beer, smoking cigarettes and watching football on a snowy TV. Just my speed.

    Sah-weeet!

Yeah, Enteleki, BF3 is pretty fast-paced. And trying to catch up is a bitch because perks are upgraded so fast everybody who's been playing it awhile just has more power to their punch. After a bit your brain adjusts to it, tho, if you stick with it...

It's also that the engagement distances are different than games like Halo or CoD (often much farther), and the visual cues are different. I often see enemies that although are visible to me, it's pointless for me to engage them because my weapon just doesn't have the effective range. You can't just look around until you see a red name or your reticle turns red, like in Halo. Someone could be hiding in a bush where you can't see him but he can see you. You have to look for bodyparts sticking out from cover while remaining in cover. It also helps to be familiar with each map as well as how the gametype affects each map, so you have an idea where enemies are likely to appear from.

Also, one thing that I've said before, which I think bears repeating: finding a scope that works for you well with the weapon you use seems to me to be more important than what weapon you use in a particular class.
It dont mean a thing if it aint got that swing!!!

I agree with Chaos and Ken. The first thing I noticed when playing BF3 is how you almost need to squint at your TV when you play trying to identify enemy positions, etc.

I hear your frustrations though because I have them to. I found the best solution is to play with other Geezers and make sure one of those Geezers is vocal and confident enough to lead the rest of the squad.

Old Crow did this the other night and I found it very refreshing to have him give me orders so I could relax and just support him instead of trying to "make something happen". My job was basically to watch his flank, ride around capping territories and healing/reviving them when they died. It was a lot of fun and I only got a handful of kills (which goes to show you can have fun in this game and not have to get a lot of kills because your "success" is measured differently.

Battlefield is not about kills, it's about playing the objective. The sooner one adjusts to this over games like COD the sooner you will enjoy it and actually better yourself playing it.

Can't stress this enough, if you run around like your playing COD you will die over and over and over and over and over again.

One way you can rank up faster at the beginning is play as an engineer. Play conquest and lay mines down on the main pathways the other team will be using to drive in their tanks and humvees. You will rack up a ton of points and kills for destroying their vehicles. Especially since when you die the mines you have planted stay where you put them plus you get a new batch to plant somewhere else.

I enjoy constantly learning the nuances of this game. Also as stated above you should play around with your customizations until you find one that fits you.

Good advice guys. I'm slowly unlearning the CoD ways and Old Crow was a big help over the weekend. Thanks Crow.

I think I'll try the engineer.
