I'm gonna be honest.. I've been wondering the same thing.. and wondering what the donations are for.

I know my hard earned dollars are going toward efforts to hack XBL and bump up my stats - and not toward golf junkets for Jamey and Squidgey.
At least, I'm pretty sure. They do look tan...

If by auto-update you mean, the founders have to go manually do a bunch of stuff to accept the donations, and then Jamey or me or somebody has to go remind them to do that periodically b/c they are senile old guys.... then yes!

I pinged Commanchero this morning to remind him to go accept all the donations. It'll take him a few days given that he has to remember how to accept the donations and then remember what a computer is and how to turn it on, without accidentally pushing his LifeCall button a few times in the process...

As to what the donations are for, the goal of the donations is to cover the cost of hosting of the site. GeezerGamers.com has no advertising and no source of income, other than the hard-earned paychecks of the founders who pay for it all out of their pockets when the donations don't cover they monthly hosting costs.

This site is run by volunteers. The admins and mods get only joy and headaches. No pay checks. The folks that founded the site (all of which have stopped coming besides me) have never made any money on donations. All the funds have gone into paying monthly hosting costs.

If you've largely forgotten what it's like to have to play with the unwashed masses because you're Friends List has been full for ages: please consider donating a few bucks to the site. It keeps the lights on and gives us a place to connect when we're not connecting via our consoles.

GeezerGamers has never been a website. It has always been a community. Thank you for making it a great place to find likeminded souls for all these years.

If you're in the position to donate to keep the lights on for another year, please do. If times are tough (like they are for so many folks) don't worry about it.

Thank you founders, for keeping the lights on. I really appreciate it! I really liked Jamey's post. It makes me want to do my part, but doesn't feel like someone telling me what to do. That's what good leadership is all about.

AND it's paypal, how sweet is that?! What does the "status update" mean?

Oh, and it's also really sweet that the donation starts at $5 it makes me feel like I want to do more, but I don't have to feel bad if I don't.
