If you have access to clear, dark skies this weekend (and can stay up late), you're in for a treat!
Late Friday night and late Saturday night should be good shows for this year's Perseid shower.

The wife and I spent about 20 minutes out there last night. Lots of light pollution, but luckily, we live right on the edge of the city. My wife managed to see 7 meteors, I saw none.
You dumb bastard. It's not a schooner, it's a sailboat.
Ugh, terrible weather in Maryland, too.
<sigh> Well, the Orionid shower peaks Oct 21 and as Doc said, the Leonids peak on Nov 17. And there's always next year...
I swear I haven't had a good night of weather for the Perseids in almost a decade - the only exception was a trip to my in-laws in South Dakota. 40 acres in the middle of nowhere, clear sky and stuffed with so many stars it almost seemed fake. Now that was spectacular.![]()
In November the air is so clear where I live that the Leonids never disappoint.
I'm assuming you're an amateur astronomer, Pete!

Cloudy skies my way as well, I haven't stayed up the last few years. When I was younger and really into amateur astronomy I'd stay up for the peak hours and see dozens an hour on good clear nights.
We had clear skies and lots of meteors. Fun night.
I'm not even an amateur but I spent a long time in Tucson, AZ and was spoiled on stargazing. I really miss that.
I just enjoy meteor showers so much and it's great to show them to kids and grown-ups who don't normally look for that sort of thing. Always fun to see their reactions to a good show.
