I committed FB suicide. People I don't want to talk to kept coming out of the woodwork. "Look, I wasn't your friend in high school, why would a I want to be your friend now?" Sounds crabby, I know, but anyone I'm still interested in speaking with I am in contact with in a more meaningful way.

"Hi, remember me from Mrs. Bryant's English class?"
    "Here, I sent you a gift. It's a pig."

Go F- yourself and your pig gift, dumb-ass.

This was my typical FB encounter. I don't need this crap renting space in my head.

I was "coerced" onto FB as that is how my High school class was organizing our 20th reunion back in 2009. Prior to that I didn't give a rip about social media sites. After that, however, I found a couple of good friends of mine from both college and high school that I lost touch with, so that was a positive. And that led to us getting together regularly and gave us good incentive to keep in touch. What I don't like is friending co-workers. You add one or two friends from work, and everyone starts sending you requests. I hardly talk to you at all at work, and you want to be FB friends? Crazy. I really don't invest much time in it at all; I spend more time lurking on GG than I do on FB...

I can't complain too much, though. If it hadn't been for FB I wouldn't have found out about GG at all...

I for one have never been a fan of facebook. Of course, there's always the privacy issues but I think this is it's biggest downfall....

Question is...would they have if they hadn't had the chance?

I treat Facebook as if it were a soapbox on a corner. If I wouldnt stand on that soap box and shout out what I am putting on Facebook, I wont post it.

My settings are at the default, because there is nothing on there that I wouldnt want a complete stranger to see. I have a small handful of apps that I have tried at one time or another (Scrabble, family Feud, that sort of thing) but I dont play games on Facebook regularly. It is a convenient way to keep in touch with friends and family... and as that tool, it is excellent.

No matter where you go, there you are.

A lot of Myspace has been creeping into facebook lately. One of the reasons I switched originally was to get away from the spammy graphics and the music player hidden on every other page. I dont see myself dumping it any time soon though as I enjoy using the fconnect button on almost any website instead of creating yet another profile with yet another password.

That's not isolated to FB - it's just a means. Technology overall is a means for people to communicate publicly or secretly. One could argue Cell Phones and Text messages are what are ruining marriages. But at the end of the day, there were problems in a relationship if one of those elements come into play if a spouse is carrying on communications with another intimately (FB, Email, IM, Text, Phone Calls...)

I really don't like to share my private life, I try to stay in touch "OLD SCHOOL" with all my people. I try to travel a lot, talk on the phone, Skype or things like that, but as a computer geek that see how personal info get stolen from the web easily and how easy is to track people now for these "social network" apps... well.. I prefer to live quiet and relax. With text and email I have more than enough.
Of course there are some good things about it, but I don't go with new fashion stuff.

I would say that so called experts (or the couples involved) blaming social medial and/or tech gadgets for breaking up marriages is almost ludicrous. It's akin to someone blaming a gun for shooting something or someone. I've been around guns all my life and I've never seen one capable of making the decision to fire or pulling its own trigger (excluding .mil stuff). Maybe social media accelerated a couple down the path to divorce but it didn't make any choices.

Back on topic, all social media is a place for about 75% of the users to post inane comments about their pitiful life. At first I took friend request from the people that Enteleki and Angel talk about but then I had the WTF moment realizing I never liked most of them when we were young. I not only removed them but I also blocked them so they can send me a new friend request.

Social media is about one simple rule in my book, don't post anything you don't want the whole world to see. If you're not paying for a product, then you are the product.... Twitter, Facebook, etc. use the social signals from their users to generate billions; worrying about our privacy is pretty far down the list.
