Mini Tritton Warhead Review:
I have been wanting this headset from the moment it was announced, which at this point seems to be about 2 years ago. It was getting delayed time and time again. I had very high hopes for it, but to be honest with so many delays I was starting to doubt this headset claims. To me it had the perfect set of features. First let me give you a bit of background on me and my previous headsets.
One of my previous jobs, was installing THX certified home theater systems. I personally have a full THX system in my home. I know good sound. As for headsets, I have used the standard xbox headset, the wireless xbox headset, the Turtle Beach XP 500 and the Tritton AX720's and now the Warhead 7.1.
By far the Tritton Warhead have the best sound. The next closest would be the AX720's and then the XP 500. The warheads are loud, have comfortable ear-pads and the system works flawlessly. I found that bass was very good. The battery life is as claimed. They say 12 hours and have others that have claimed they received 16 hours. Out of the box with a battery that came charged (fully?) I received 14 hours of use. The batteries were easy to install as all of the doors (Headset and Base) are magnetic and do not require fishing for some small plastic tab.
The warhead is excellent in every way. Almost.
My one complaint with it is that the sound presets - Music/Game/Video really does nothing to the sound. It is a very slight change in the audio. More presents and customization would have been best.
If you, like me have kids and dogs always tripping over your wires, or like to play late at night with the surround kicking in your melon, than this is the headset for you. Look no further.
9.8 Lightsabers out of 10
I've never owned a sweet gaming headset. I think Halo 4 is going to demand one. 9.8 lightsabers you say? Hmm...
I think they have a special edition Halo 4 Warhead at gamestop.
I have been eying the Warheads at Gamestop and I really want a pair, but in the back of my mind I keep thinking about what happened to my AX PRO's. On both sides of the headset where the plastic housing of the ear cups meets the headband, had cracked. It is being held together with hockey stick tape which is doing a pretty good job. The 5.1 surround is great and I am sure that the 7.1 surround is even better on the Warhead set. I had Geek Squad coverage from Best Buy that expired 2 months prior to the crack-age. I have been trying to contact Tritton, but I think that I am getting the sales office instead. Oh well...
I have never had an issue with Tritton Support. My AX720's got messed up, and they shipped me out a new pair right away. As for the warheads, they are lightyears ahead in build quality from the 720's. The earcups don't fall off and everything feels very solid. But they better for that price.....
