I've given away all my dvd's and steam everything from my PC. Blu-rays are even coming with "digital copies". I'm running 100 Mbps down and one year ago I had 30 megs. Not to mention all the blockbusters in my town have closed.

With $50 blu ray players, I'd say we're not that far.

i agree. I've two blu ray player that never get powered up at all. I stream everything from PC or use Roku type boxes. (mine are knock offs) You should make a wiser investment into a good Roku instead of the blu if possible.

I for one like blu-rays. They don't compress the video / audio that is required for digital stream. I don't think there is a service that can offer TRUEHD DD or DTS.

Actually, BluRay is heavily compressed and quite poorly at that. In many cases Sony when they implemented the standard went with MPEG-2 which is a 15 year old plus compression compared to VC1 on HD-DVD. Most audiophile/videophile sites when comparing BluRay to 1080p iTunes downloads and even 1080p Netflix streaming the difference in many cases is pretty minimal. There are occasionally some good BluRay transfers out there but by and large the standard isn't all that great.

So now I can't get rid of a Strict NAT on my XBox - this blows! I've even forwarded the appropriate ports, etc.
The computers run lightning fast and I can still technically get the XBox online - I'm just having a terrible time in lobbies.
I'm thinking we've overloaded my little old router and it simply can't handle the traffic.

So... it looks like I'm getting a new router, too!

I've managed to make this simple life cycle replacement into a home entertainment shopping fest. I should feel bad for spending my kids' college tuition savings, I know. But I don't. Does that make me evil?

I have the same TV. I also have newer ones, but the Sony is still my favorite to watch TV on and play games since there is no screen lag. I think its around 175lb.

Just curious what your router is. I had a linksys e1000 or something like that and I could not get my NAT open at all. I found a lot of people have the same problem with that router.

I'm at work now but I'm pretty sure it's a Netgear wgt624v3. Picture looks the same and the model sounds right.
It's actually served me pretty well for a number of years now (can't remember when I got it).

We did move everything (computers, TV, modem, router, etc.) so I suppose my problem could be mechanical (I damaged it somehow) but I suspect I'm just asking too much of it these days. Really, though, on paper I was never supposed to have to worry about NAT since Universal Plug and Play has always been enabled on this thing - it wasn't supposed to be necessary to forward ports, etc. But I can't say I'm surprised that didn't work out...

I'm hoping it gets fixed with a new router. If not, then at least I'll have a cool, wicked powerful new router.
